What others are saying

The Steampunk Express is still running at The Imaginarium, which has moved from North York to Scarborough. It’s a longer game with a reputation as a very hard room. Reception has mostly been very positive, though a few recent enthusiast reviews are more critical.

Fans praise the immersive train set, the sheer number and variety of puzzles, and the heavy use of tech in place of padlocks. The Escape the Roomers blog loved how the puzzles get the whole team working together and called the tense finale very satisfying, naming it their favourite Imaginarium room. Experienced players on Morty said it offers a real challenge, even for people who have played a lot of rooms.

The criticisms centre on puzzle style and upkeep. Several players disliked the memory puzzles, especially with nothing to write on, along with a “Simon”-style sequence puzzle and sliding-tile and jigsaw puzzles that felt like time-wasters. Some reported mechanisms malfunctioning, visibly worn props, and an undecorated crawlspace section that broke the immersion. A few groups found the room uncomfortably hot in the summer of 2026, though another reported it was comfortable. Escape the Roomers also warned that it’s possible to miss a step so that something doesn’t trigger.
