Below Zero is one of Crypto’s most celebrated rooms. Enthusiast bloggers who have made the trip to Crypto’s Newmarket venue consistently describe it as a standout sci-fi game, and the Room Escape Artist blog called it a gem that’s well worth the drive from downtown Toronto.
Players rave about the set, lighting and sound, which make the cryogenic facility feel futuristic and lived-in. The AI companion, Bert, gets a lot of love for his humour and voice acting, and reviewers praise the writing and story structure. The puzzles are all tech-driven (no padlocks), tie neatly into the narrative and often need the whole team working together, and several reviewers enjoyed a meaningful choice near the end.
The most common complaint is repetition: a few blogs and players noted that the same type of puzzle shows up several times. Some also found the guided, linear flow, with story breaks between puzzles, interrupted their momentum. Experienced teams tend to find it on the easier side, and one player felt the ending wasn’t as exciting as they’d hoped.
