Butcher's Basement

Your investigation team has been working on many cases of missing babies and children within the community for the last couple of months. All evidence leads you to the local butcher shop. Tony, the butcher, is the primary suspect.

The butcher shop is cold, and the air smells raw; although you are shaken up by the eerie atmosphere, you are determined to find your friend’s baby, and to put an end to this case.

What others are saying

Butcher’s Basement is Roundabout’s horror-themed room. Casual players are generally very positive about it, while seasoned enthusiasts are more mixed.

People mostly praise the atmosphere. The We Try to Escape blog said it genuinely felt like stepping into a butcher shop, with convincing props, stressful music and a well-used (if small) space. Playing without the optional actor, they found it more suspenseful than truly scary, with only a few small jump scares. They also enjoyed the puzzles, calling them varied and well integrated, with plenty to keep a team busy. A TripAdvisor reviewer said it’s great for beginners but might be a bit easy for experienced players. An early Toronto blog, Escape Games Review, also liked its set pieces and finishing touches.

The main criticisms are about how the room plays. Several reviewers said it’s very linear and relies almost entirely on padlocks. Players on the Morty app said parts are very dark and groups only get a couple of flashlights, so bigger teams may struggle to see. A few enthusiasts found the theming more “haunted house” than imaginative, and one found a puzzle unclear. The fake gore and creepy visuals may also be too much for younger players.
