The Prisoner

You have been wrongly accused of murder and sentenced to death. The prison you are in had a history of escapes many years ago. Use the clues that were left behind to help all the inmates escape. You have 60 minutes before the guards take you to your execution.

What others are saying

The Prisoner gets a warm reception from casual players and groups, especially on TripAdvisor. Enthusiasts are more divided about how well the split-up start works in practice.

The opening is what people remember most. Players start in separate cells, and the We Try to Escape blog called the way you break out “very original and completely unexpected”. They also liked that the game is non-linear, relies on lots of communication between cells, and makes nods to Butcher’s Basement. TripAdvisor reviewers called it well done with great props and clever puzzles, and appreciated that it goes beyond a simple chain of combination locks. We Try to Escape also called it a great family-friendly option.

On the negative side, We Try to Escape found the set a little basic (you can see most of the space from the start), the story generic, and most puzzles fairly simple. Players on the Morty app said some teammates can end up stuck in one cell for much of the game, and that it’s easy to miss things in the low light, especially with only one person per cell. Another mentioned loud music that made communicating harder. Older TripAdvisor reviews also complained about not having enough flashlights, uncomfortable handcuffs at the start, and staff who seemed indifferent after the escape.
