The Descent

4000 feet below the surface of the earth is an abandoned cave discovered many years ago. You’ll have to take the long trip down. Hold on tight! It won’t be smooth- A lot of bumps and perhaps a few drops. But, it’ll be worth the descent. Supposedly, there are 10 crystal artifacts hidden throughout the cold, dark cave. You’ll have to work together as a team to navigate and decipher this mysterious collection of puzzles and games left here by an ancient past. You better hurry up! Fresh air is limited! Do you have what it takes?

What others are saying

The Descent starts with a simulated, bumpy elevator ride down a mine shaft, then sends your team through a cave looking for ten crystal artifacts. It’s one of Ready Set Go’s better-liked rooms. It picked up a “Best of Morty” award in 2024, and some players call it a favourite, though a few experienced players came away unimpressed.

Fans enjoyed the elevator opening, describing it as fun though bumpy. One reviewer who gets nauseous on roller coasters said they were totally fine. The We Try To Escape blog called the decor beautiful and well executed and liked the music. One Morty reviewer praised the final space in particular. The puzzles are described as creative and multi-step, and most can be worked on at the same time, so groups of four or more stay busy.

The criticism centres on repetition and memory. Several players said you have to solve the same kind of puzzle multiple times at rising difficulty, and that some puzzles depend on memorizing details with nothing to write on. We Try To Escape found the elevator illusion only partly convincing because the doorway stays open, noted two identical jigsaw puzzles and said the company’s puzzle style feels predictable if you play several of its rooms. One unhappy reviewer complained about flickering lights during a reading puzzle and a low doorway combined with slippery floor panels. Others mentioned a slow, bottlenecked start, that the room isn’t ideal for anyone prone to motion sickness or with balance issues, and that one puzzle would be very hard for colourblind players.
