Dark Alter

“An archeology fanatic is the head of the mysterious and spooky Copenheimer Museum, where he hopes to use a dark ritual to give himself eternal, Godly power. Those who enter the museum must face the dark power and stop the ritual before it’s too late.”

What others are saying

Omescape now goes by Omventure, and this room is still running at its Markham location under the name Dark Altar. Reception is mixed: players generally call it a decent, eerie puzzle room, but many enthusiasts see it as one of the older and weaker games in the Omventure line-up, even after a recent refresh.

On the plus side, players on Morty enjoyed the way new spaces open up as you progress, the creepy (but not truly scary) mood with a few loud surprises, and friendly, helpful staff. One player recommended it for intermediate escapers, while the Escapewhere blog thought its straightforward puzzles make it a gentle introduction for newcomers.

The complaints are fairly consistent. Escapewhere found the sets modest, the puzzles simple and linear, and the ending abrupt and anticlimactic. Morty reviewers mentioned tech glitches that stalled progress after puzzles were solved, dim lighting, a tough opening puzzle, some unclear instructions, a generic temple feel, and small rooms that get crowded with bigger groups. A couple suggested playing it only if you’re already there or want to finish every Omventure room.
