“You suddenly wake up to find yourself locked in a cramped prison cell, cold, scared, the air-filled with silence. You soon realize that you are in the St.Temple Prison. This abandoned prison has a history of mysteriously taking the lives of others. If you don’t want to be next, you have to escape.”
We have not yet completed a review of The Penitentiary at Omescape in Markham. We hope to experience this room soon.

Omescape now operates as Omventure, and The Penitentiary is still running in Markham. Feedback is strongly positive, with players describing it as a well-designed prison escape and one of the tougher Omventure rooms.
The highlight for many is the start, where the team is split between cells and has to talk to each other to progress. Players on Morty praised the teamwork it demands, the wide variety of puzzles, and the way difficulty ramps up as you go. The We Try To Escape blog loved the gritty steampunk decor and background music, and appreciated that the game isn’t interrupted by video or audio between puzzles.
The criticisms are fairly minor. The starting cells are small, so reviewers recommend a modest group. One player found the story hard to follow and the final puzzles especially tough, and another called it a fairly standard prison room, albeit a fun one. We Try To Escape noted it’s linear and might be hard for younger kids.
